Shootings across Chicago over the weekend killed at least eight people and wounded at least 17 others, according to police and Chicago Sun-Times reporting.

The most recent fatal attack came Sunday evening in Englewood on the South Side. A 17-year-old girl was a passenger in a car in the 7300 block of South Union Avenue when she was struck by gunfire, police said. She was taken to University of Chicago, where she was pronounced dead.

Earlier Sunday, about 7:30 a.m., a 44-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 10400 block of South Corliss Avenue in Roseland. Chicago police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men died in a shootout in Lawndale on the West Side around 2:40 a.m. Sunday. Police said they were riding south in a car in the 800 block of South Albany Avenue when a red SUV approached and someone inside opened fire, prompting both vehicles to exchange shots. A 28-year-old man was shot in the head and a 25-year-old man was hit in the upper back. Both were pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

Less than a mile away and less than 12 hours before that, a 56-year-old man was killed on the sidewalk in the 600 block of South California Avenue. Police said that about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, a car pulled up and someone inside fired, hitting him in the head. He died at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Saturday night in East Garfield Park, a fight on a porch in the 3900 block of West Wilcox Street turned deadly about 11:35 p.m. Police said a woman believed to be in her mid-20s was shot in the head and later died at Mount Sinai. A 27-year-old man was grazed in the mouth and taken to the same hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

About 20 minutes later, a 31-year-old man was found in an alley in the 1300 block of East 76th Street in Grand Crossing with six gunshot wounds, one to the head and five to the back. He was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. According to Sun-Times data, he is the twelfth person killed in the Greater Grand Crossing community area this year, compared with 15 murders in the area over the same period last year.

On Friday night, 25-year-old Corey Williams was shot in the stomach and thigh in the 7000 block of South Eggleston Avenue in Englewood about 7:10 p.m. Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said he was involved in a "narcotics-related transaction" when another person drew a handgun and fired. He died at the University of Chicago.

Two teenagers were among the wounded. Less than an hour after Williams was shot, a 14-year-old boy walking in the 6500 block of South Ingleside Avenue in Woodlawn was shot in the abdomen by a person who approached him, police said; he was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition. On Saturday about 7:50 p.m., a 17-year-old was shot in the groin in the 1300 block of North Homan Avenue in Humboldt Park and was listed in good condition at Norwegian Hospital.
