Malcolm Roach recorded the final sack of the game on Patrick Mahomes with four yards to go, securing a 28-24 victory for the Denver Broncos. The win moved Denver to first place in the AFC West with a record of 6-2. The result came after a late rally that erased an 11-point deficit in the final minutes of play.

The Broncos trailed 24-13 in the third quarter. Bo Nix threw a two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Nate Adkins to cut the lead to 24-21. He followed with a successful two-point conversion to Jaylen Waddle. The Chiefs' Harrison Butker then missed a 54-yard field goal attempt wide right in steady rain. Denver required only two plays and 35 seconds to take the lead. Nix completed a 51-yard pass to Jonah Coleman, who scored from the five-yard line on the next snap.

Kansas City, which fell to 5-2, had a final drive lasting under two minutes. Kenneth Walker III and Travis Kelce moved the ball to the Denver one-yard line. Walker was stopped on third and fourth down. Mahomes was then sacked by Roach on the final play. The Chiefs had not won their previous game against Seattle and dropped their second consecutive match.

Nix finished 20 of 32 for 222 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Mahomes threw for 321 yards on 30 of 41 attempts with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Despite the passing success, the Chiefs failed to convert key third-down opportunities in the second half. Walker carried the ball 21 times for 69 yards.

The Chiefs built their lead through three touchdowns from Mahomes. Rashee Rice caught an 11-yard pass in the first quarter. Emmett Johnson scored on a 73-yard reception in the second quarter after catching the ball near his own 40-yard line. Noah Gray added a four-yard touchdown in the third quarter. These scores gave Kansas City a 24-13 advantage before Denver's final drive.

Injuries affected both rosters. The Chiefs lost defensive lineman Peter Woods to a neck injury in the first quarter. Cornerbacks L'Jarius Sneed and Mansoor Delane were out, leaving Kristian Fulton and Nohl Williams as starters. For Denver, cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine left with an ankle injury in the second quarter. Safety Brandon Jones was ruled out at halftime. Running back RJ Harvey remained on short-term injured reserve due to a knee injury.

The Broncos will travel to play the Carolina Panthers next Sunday. The Chiefs will host the New York Jets in their next game.
