Fifteen senior cheerleaders at Sun Valley High School in Aston, Pennsylvania, moved from room to room on Wednesday morning to present gifts to specific staff members. The group targeted individuals who influenced their academic and social development, aiming to express gratitude before the end of the school year.
The recognition campaign began with Kiara Jones, 17, who visited her personal finance teacher, Kate Bigelow. Jones presented Bigelow with a shirt and a ticket to the Friday football game, which serves as senior night for the graduating class. The gesture drew applause from the students present in the room.
Jones described Bigelow as a dedicated educator who focuses on ensuring every student succeeds. Bigelow responded by acknowledging the effort involved in teaching and the joy the visit brought her during a challenging week.
Senior Abigail Falcone approached teacher Joseph Kochersperger, becoming emotional while speaking about their relationship. Falcone noted that she visits his classroom before homeroom daily. Kochersperger stated that he has watched Falcone evolve from a shy freshman into a confident student ready to impact the world. He expressed that the recognition meant a great deal to him because he felt he made a difference in her life.
Teacher Maddie Starinieri also received a tribute, telling the students that the visit improved her day and week after a difficult period. The group’s recognition extended beyond classroom teachers to include support staff. Senior Jack Abate visited Joseph Burch, the head custodian, who described the honor of being named by a student as a meaningful experience.
This event followed a similar tribute organized by the school’s football team on October 7, when players distributed jerseys to faculty members. The cheerleading squad’s actions are part of a series of end-of-year acknowledgments as graduation approaches for the senior class.
The visits concluded with the students having directly interacted with the staff members who supported them throughout their high school tenure.
