Metropolitan Bank filed a request on Monday for a sheriff sale of the Mission Gateway site in Mission, Kansas. The bank asked the Johnson County Clerk of the District Court to order the auction after the property owners missed a court-mandated payment deadline. As of Wednesday, the court had not issued a response to the filing.
The legal battle centers on a $46.24 million debt owed by Aryeh Realty LLC, a New York City based firm. On October 2, a Johnson County judge entered a final judgment against the owners. They had defaulted on their loan with Metropolitan Bank and also failed to pay property taxes on the site. The judge gave the firm until October 16 to settle the full amount before the bank could pursue a sale.
The site has stood empty for 20 years. In late December 2025, public records obtained by KCTV Investigates showed that the city had accrued nearly $1.5 million in unpaid property taxes. The records also detailed the costs associated with cleaning up portions of the area. The stalled development has been a long-standing issue for the community.
In early October, the City of Mission announced a potential path forward for the property. The city signed an agreement with R.H. Johnson Company that contemplates the acquisition of the former Mission Mall site. However, that deal is dependent on the current foreclosure proceedings moving forward. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office lists all pending foreclosure sales on its public website, where this specific auction will appear if the court approves the request.
