A fresh injection of funds targets the Texas Senate seat as the billionaire expands his digital advertising efforts.

Elon Musk injected more than $76 million into his personal political vehicle, America PAC, during the first two weeks of October. The transfer aims to bolster Republican candidates in the closing days of the midterm election cycle. The contribution was revealed in a pre-election report submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening.
Financial records indicate the committee deployed nearly $43 million during that same period. The organization enters the final phase of the race with approximately $47 million in liquid assets. A significant portion of the new outlay targeted the contested Senate race in Texas. The group allocated $15.2 million to that specific contest, a figure that doubles the total amount spent there throughout the summer. Of that sum, $12.4 million was used to attack Democratic nominee James Talarico, while $2.8 million promoted Republican candidate Ken Paxton.
Subsequent daily filings confirm an additional $9.1 million directed against Talarico. This brings the committee's total opposition spending on the Democrat to nearly $28 million for the cycle. That amount represents roughly 40 percent of all funds the group has used to support or oppose candidates. The PAC has also shifted its strategy toward digital platforms. It spent $11.4 million on online advertisements in the two-week window, approaching the combined total for mailers and text messages.
Musk remains the largest known individual donor for the midterms. His contributions to Republican political groups exceed $445 million for this election cycle. More than $165 million of that total flowed to America PAC since July. The committee declined to provide a statement on the recent transfers. Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, maintain operations in Texas. He has also engaged directly with the race on social media. On Wednesday, he posted on X that Talarico was "a creep" and claimed the candidate would vote to remove children from parents. Earlier in the month, he shared a false claim regarding Talarico’s treatment at a mental health facility.
Talarico reacted swiftly to the online posts. He stated that the system allows one trillionaire to buy a personal senator. The race remains competitive. An Emerson College poll conducted October 17 to 19 among 1,000 likely Texas voters showed Talarico leading by two points. The margin of error is three points.
The outcome carries implications beyond the state. If Democrats capture the House, committee chairs have signaled plans to investigate Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency. They also intend to review federal contracts held by his companies and alleged conflicts of interest. A Democratic control of both chambers would likely increase pressure. Silicon Valley Democrats have also flagged SpaceX’s Starshield service in Ukraine. Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna wrote to the White House, asserting that the next Congress will closely scrutinize funding awarded to Musk’s businesses.
