The Missouri State Highway Patrol is searching for a specific dark-colored SUV connected to the fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a five-year-old girl in Raytown. The investigation has narrowed its focus to a new suspect vehicle following the initial crash on October 13.
Investigators believe the car is a black GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Tahoe manufactured between 2000 and 2010. The collision occurred near 9 p.m. on East 87th Street, just east of James A. Reed Road. The victim was identified as Ka’Una Simone Reed.
Her aunt, Christina Barfield, launched a GoFundMe campaign the day after the accident. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fund had raised more than $10,000. The money is intended to support the family during the ongoing legal and personal fallout from the tragedy.
The patrol has asked the public to review their own vehicle descriptions and check for new dents, paint scratches, or glass chips. Officials are urging witnesses or owners who recognize the vehicle to contact MSHP Troop A headquarters at 816-622-0800.
Anyone with additional information may also reach the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline. Calls can be made at 816-474-TIPS, or tips can be submitted online or through the P3Tips mobile app. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for tips that lead to arrests.
