The Tennessee Titans tied an NFL record for consecutive games without two straight wins in the same season after losing 27-24 to the Cleveland Browns.
According to Sportradar, the loss marks the 65th game in a row for the Titans without back-to-back victories. They are now level with the Cleveland Browns from the 2014 to 2018 seasons. Tampa Bay holds the longest streak at 74 games from 1985 to 1989, but the Buccaneers won the final game of 1988 and the first of 1989.
The Titans hold a 1-6 record. First-year head coach Robert Saleh identified a finishing problem as the core issue. Tennessee is 1-4 in games decided by a touchdown or less this season. Saleh argued that the team is good enough to be in position to win but fails in the final minutes. He cited the win at Indianapolis as a success and listed losses to Philadelphia, the New York Giants, and Baltimore as failures to finish.
"It is so close, it is so close," Saleh said on Monday. "And there’s a lot of good that you can take from it, but at the end of the day, if you’re not winning, it’s very hard to find the good."
The offense produced its best numbers of the season. The Titans rushed for 322 yards and scored three touchdowns. They controlled the ball for 28 minutes and 46 seconds. This marked the first time since December 15, 2024, that the team scored a touchdown on each of its first two possessions. The defense allowed only one sack for no yards.
The Browns outgained the Titans 491-322 in total yards. Cleveland secured the win with a field goal after a 36-yard catch-and-run play set up the scoring drive. The Titans failed to make a defensive stop that could have forced overtime.
Running back Tony Pollard had his best game of the season. He carried for 129 yards and scored a career-high three touchdowns. A fourth score was erased on review. Pollard also caught three passes for 26 yards. He currently ranks 10th in the NFL with 478 rushing yards.
Cornerback Alontae Taylor missed his second straight game. He dressed for the contest but did not play a snap. Saleh said the team is transitioning Taylor to an inside position, which he described as more like a linebacker role. The Titans signed Taylor to a three-year contract worth $58 million in March. Punter Tommy Townsend remains questionable after hurting his knee in a collision while finishing a punt. The Titans face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday before a bye week.
