House Majority PAC announced on Wednesday that it is injecting an extra $2.1 million into television advertising in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. The super PAC, which maintains ties to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, aims to unseat Republican incumbent Jeff Hurd.

CJ Warnke, a spokesperson for the group, confirmed the late-stage financial commitment. This spending occurs after more than 1 million Colorado voters, representing roughly 25% of active registered voters, have already submitted their ballots. The Federal Election Commission will likely not receive the reported figures for several days.

Prior to this week, the campaign for Dwayne Romero, the Democratic challenger and former Aspen City Council member, had seen minimal super PAC support. The new funds sit on top of $300,000 that HMP had already allocated for television spots in the final week before the election.

This Democratic push seeks to counter Republican efforts that have already deployed over $3 million in the district. Trump-aligned groups Safety & Affordability and No Going Back PAC led the Republican spending, with a combined $2.5 million spent by Monday. Their advertisements focused primarily on attacking Romero.

Recent polls indicate the contest is effectively a toss-up. The district covers the Western Slope and extends into Pueblo and southeastern Colorado. In the 2024 cycle, Hurd defeated his opponent by five percentage points, while Donald Trump won the district by ten percentage points.

Hurd is concluding his first term in office. Romero seeks to take the seat in the upcoming general election.
