A 27,000-square-foot hangar at Salina Regional Airport will host a political rally this Saturday. Republican officials announced the schedule on Tuesday, setting door opening for 8:30 a.m. and President Donald Trump's address for noon. This gathering represents his second trip to Kansas within two weeks.

The visit follows a rally held by Vice President JD Vance in Topeka on Monday. Several administration officials have recently traveled to the state to support Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall. Marshall is seeking re-election against Democratic pastor Adam Hamilton. These high-profile visits aim to energize the base ahead of the general election.

In Wichita, City Manager Dennis Marstall presented a proposal to the City Council. The plan seeks a six-month extension of the contract with Flock, an automatic license plate reader company. Approval would extend the Wichita Police Department's agreement through the end of March. Council member Joseph Shepard supports the technology, provided that community safeguards are in place. He stated that residents should have a voice in setting those protections.

A legal challenge to the cameras is currently pending. A local man filed a lawsuit in Sedgwick County District Court. He alleges that the use of the cameras violates his privacy rights. The council will vote on the extension next week, a decision that will determine the system's continued operation past the current term.

City services are also adjusting for the holiday weekend. Wichita Transit will run free buses between The Hub in Delano and the College Hill neighborhood on Saturday. Service begins at 6 p.m., with departures every 30 minutes. The final return bus to The Hub leaves at 9:15 p.m. The first 100 passengers will receive a special Halloween gift.

A separate collision killed a 79-year-old man on Tuesday morning. James Mattson was driving a Honda CR-V west on Lincoln Street. He was attempting a southbound turn onto Greenwich Street when Fire Engine 20 struck the driver's side. The fire engine was heading north on Greenwich with lights and siren active. Mattson died at a local hospital. None of the four firefighters aboard the vehicle were injured.
