Winnipeg Jets forward Dylan Samberg scored the winner in overtime as his team completed the latest four-goal comeback in National Hockey League history. The victory snapped a nine-game losing streak for Winnipeg, which had suffered a 7-0 defeat to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
The Canadiens held a four-goal advantage for much of the contest. Montreal's Jacob Fowler faced 42 shots and was attempting a shutout until late in the third period. Cole Caufield extended the lead to 4-0 with his second goal of the game 46 seconds into the third period.
Winnipeg mounted its response in the final 32 seconds of regulation. Tyrel Bauer and Morgan Barron scored first to break the shutout. Kyle Connor then added a power-play goal, his second of the night, to tie the score with 32 seconds remaining.
The four-goal rally spanned just two minutes and eight seconds. It began at 57:21, surpassing the previous record held by the Los Angeles Kings, who started their comeback at 52:46 on Nov. 10, 2007. This sequence also marked the fastest four-goal outburst in Jets franchise history, beating a benchmark set on Nov. 9, 1984.
Stuart Skinner stopped 18 shots for Winnipeg. Mark Scheifele and Dylan DeMelo each recorded two assists. For Montreal, Owen Beck and Josh Anderson scored, while Juraj Slafkovsky added two assists.
Nick Suzuki missed his sixth consecutive game with a hand injury. The Canadiens captain had played 546 straight regular-season games to start his career. He practiced without obvious limitations on Monday and Tuesday morning and appears close to a return.
