K-State Coach Doubts Quarterback Will Return This Season
Collin Klein says Avery Johnson's chance of playing against Oklahoma State is slim, marking a third straight game missed for the senior starter.

Kansas State fans will likely watch another backup quarterback take the field this Saturday. Head coach Collin Klein stated on Monday that Avery Johnson is unlikely to play against Oklahoma State. This would be the fourth-year starter's third consecutive absence.
The injury situation has forced the Wildcats to rotate through different starters. Jacob Knuth took the field against Arizona State on October 24, where the team lost 28-17. The following week, Blake Barnett started in a loss to Colorado that went into overtime.
Klein acknowledged the difficulty of the current roster depth. He noted that he has not seen a similar quarterback scenario in his coaching career. The coach credited the players in the room for handling the pressure and supporting one another during the last ten weeks of competition.
The decision to bench Johnson stems from his recovery timeline. Klein described the return outlook as longer than short, calling the possibility of a return this season an outside chance. The coach admitted his heart breaks for the Wichita native, who has started 32 games for the program.
The Wildcats currently hold a 4-4 record. They will face Oklahoma State on Saturday at noon. Johnson's status for the remainder of the year remains undecided pending his recovery.
