Dallas Cowboys fans watching from the stands in Philadelphia saw their team avoid a third consecutive loss on Monday night. The victory over the Eagles stopped a slide that had left the Cowboys with a 2-4 record. It also preserved their standing in the NFC East, where they remain tied with the New York Giants.
The offense generated 38 points, a stark contrast to the 29 points scored in the previous two contests. Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes. He also connected with CeeDee Lamb twice and George Pickens once. Javonte Williams carried the ball 25 times for a career-high 155 yards. He scored the final touchdown of the game from the 2-yard line with 2 minutes and 21 seconds remaining.
This performance marked the first time since 1983 that Dallas recorded over 200 yards rushing and over 200 yards passing against the Eagles. The defensive unit allowed Philadelphia to score on its opening drive and again at the start of the second half. However, the Cowboys forced two turnovers. DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass from Tanner McKee. Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku combined for two sacks.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer faced scrutiny during the week. He told 105.3 The Fan that he is an elite playcaller despite a 9-13-1 record. He also stated in a meeting that he knows how great of a coach he is. After the win, Schottenheimer celebrated in the locker room but remained reserved in his media availability. He attributed the result to his players playing well rather than desperation.
Prescott acknowledged the external pressure on his coach. He described Schottenheimer as a hungry and pissed-off version of himself during the week. Prescott said the team supports Schottenheimer and that the coach takes pride in his role. The quarterback noted that the focus shifts to execution on the field regardless of the noise.
The Cowboys had not won a game in 22 days prior to this result. Their last victory occurred on October 4 against the Houston Texans. The team has not won consecutive games since a three-game winning streak in the previous season. The win improves their odds of securing the division title to 57% according to ESPN Analytics.
The Cowboys will host the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium next. Prescott said the team must earn each victory weekly. He emphasized that the NFL does not grant status based on past performance or reputation.
