Jeremy Z. Mfundu, a corrections officer at the Jackson County Detention Center, is facing criminal charges for moving drugs through the facility where he works. Prosecutors allege he delivered prohibited items and attempted to distribute a controlled substance inside the jail.

The case began when investigators learned inmates possessed sheets of LSD paper inside the facility. Two weeks after that report, a confidential informant provided detectives with a specific phone number. Cross-referencing that number through databases identified it as belonging to Mfundu's personnel file at the detention center.

Investigators recorded a phone call between the informant and Mfundu. In the audio, Mfundu said he would meet the informant to "pick up the paperwork." He later admitted to giving his cell number to an inmate and retrieving the papers with the intention of smuggling them into the jail. While Mfundu stated he did not know the exact contents of the papers, he confirmed he knew they were contraband.

Officers arrested Mfundu at the Jackson County Detention Facility on October 16. He was taken into custody as he arrived for his scheduled shift. The probable cause statement details the sequence of events from the initial tip to the final arrest at the workplace.

Mfundu now faces one count of delivering a prohibited article into jail and one count of attempting to distribute a controlled substance. These charges stem directly from the recorded phone conversations and his admissions during the investigation.
